[sco.opendesktop] xterm and setuid ?

wengland@stephsf.UUCP (Bill England) (05/30/90)

  * SYSTEM IS SCO UNIX ODT

I thought xterm was setuid so that each xterm you run would
show up in commands like 'who' 'finger' etc.

It seems however that my xterm is invisible to system commands
like the ones above. For instance:

'who am i' returns a blank stare if it's run from an xterm.
No one on a normal login can send me messages with 'write'.
'finger' only shows the primary logon and none of the xterms.

If setuid on xterm is not affecting these programs operation
exactly why is xterm setuid then ?

  ( I thought I understood, but now I'm not so sure. )
