HELP!!! Mac II Ruins Hard Disk! HELP!!! SUMMARY: Mac II created disk errors on CMS PD 600, files cannot be copied, directory lost etc. Mac II misbehaves with other drive too, with a PLI dual removable Syquest drive. CONFIGURATION: Mac II, 8 Mb RAM, Marathon 33 Mhz 68030 chip, 17 in Big Picture by E-machines. NOTE: Identical configuration of another Mac II and there everything works perectly, including the CMS PD 600 ruined on the bad Mac. SYMPTOMS: (i) Every time CMS PD 600 is used, within a few minutes media errors are created on the disk. When I use a uitility called "Platinum SCSI Utility v1.1" to test drive it will crunch out errors by the dozens. Also when copying files I receive message: file cannot be copied, disk error. When I cancel then disk "hangs up", i.e. system freezes, green light stays on and I must turn of disk to restart Mac. I also lost disk directory several times so I have to reformat disk. (ii) Though PLI dual removable Syquest drive seems to work, there are such things as when trashing icon then red light in drive comes on, green light goes off, drive slows down and then suddenly accelerates back to normal speed. Also sometimes drive freezes. REPEAT: Identical configuration of another Mac II and there everything works perectly, including the CMS PD 600 and PLI dual removable Syquest drive which do not work on bad Mac.In additon, I tried things on a regular Mac II and everything worked fine. QUESTION: What could be wrong? Is there a SCSI controller what could be bad? What parts should I check? How much would a new board cost? Please give me some advice!!!!
