Space shuttle orbiter vehicle Atlantis successfully completed a static
firing of its main engines. NASA is pronouncing this orbiter vehicle the
"cleanest" shuttle to date. The first launch of Atlantis is scheduled for
October 2, 1985, a Defense Department mission designated 51-J. Its second
mission is Earth Observation Mission 1 scheduled for November. Atlantis
is also to deploy the Galileo Jupiter orbiter/probe attached to a Centaur
upper stage next May.
