I am getting ready to set up a IIci which came stock with 2 Meg RAM and no hard disk. I would like to install a 3.5" Quantum ProDrive that was just formatted to run on a II with an interleave of 1. Other than getting the correct internal mounting kit, can I simply unplug this drive from the II and plug it into the IIci without having to reformat it? If I did reformat it, would I gain anything? I am 90% sure that the stock RAM is not parity RAM, but if it was, could I add in non-parity RAM to bring this machine upto 5 MEG? If so, what is the best configuration (assuming I currently have 8 256k SIMMs installed now) to install 4 1 MEG SIMMS (i.e. 4 256k in bank A 4 1M in bank b, or vice versa)? If this parity/non parity configuration is possible, are there any problems I should be aware of in regards to present operation or future upgrades to the hardware or system software? Finally, are there any other "words of wisdom" or pitfalls that people know about in making the switch from a II to a IIci? Please email and I will post responses if people are interested.
