Hi there again. I think I'm going to get a Macintosh (instead of that Atari) for music applications. I'm looking for a few recommendations on hardware though. 1) What is the current folklore on disk drives (as in... what are the "good" brands of drives to buy)? I hear Quantums are quite good. I've seen Quantum 100 meg drives advertised for < $1,000 in the mail-order places. Maxtors are excellent too but I haven't seen any for Macs. Any other recs on 100 meg drives? 2) Is the Apple RGB 13" monitor and colour card a decent combination or should I buy, for example, E-machines or Supermac stuff? I'm not entirely pleased with the Apple RGB monitor. Fortunately I only need 8-bit video for what I want to do so please don't recommend 24-bit colour systems. I also want to keep the cost of the monitor down around $700. I can't afford a 19" mega-zillion dollar monitor. I'm seriously considering a IIcx. Neat machine and it'll be compatible with 7.0 when it comes out. Oh... since we're talking music, I wonder if anyone can recommend a MIDI interface. I think Opcode has one and somebody else too. Any good/bad experiences with any particular MIDI hardware on Macs? Enjoy! -- John T.
