First, I'd like to thank Fabian Ramirez and some of the other posters on comp.sys.mac for their rundown of color cards for the SE/30. It's narrowed down the starting point for my SEx's color card search quite a bit. Now I'd like to ask for recommendations for/against various models, given the following parameters: 1) I'm planning on using this with an Apple 13" color monitor. If there are any "clones" of the 13" monitor that work just like Apple's with any of these 3rd-party cards, and are MUCH cheaper (I'll probably get the Apple monitor at developer prices), I'd be interested to hear of them. I've seen several recommendations against the Magnavox on a local BBS, but I'm not at all sure that the poster was that well-informed. (I know I'm not!) 2) 8-bit is OK. (It appears that 24-bit is still about $500 more, though the RasterOps ColorBoard 264 for the SE/30 is getting down there -- does that support only the Apple Monitors, or does it also support 19" color monitors?) 3) The only other feature I REALLY want is to be able to use the SEx's small screen along with the color monitor -- drag from the B&W SEx screen to the color screen, in the same manner one is able to drag things from SE screens to the various SE full-screen monitors. Is this possible on any (or all) of these monitors? Here are the models/prices, quoted from Fabian's original article: >SuperMac......................ColorCard SE/30..............$ 899 >SuperMac......................Spectrum/8 (Series II).......$1895 > >Micron Technology.............Xceed SE/306-48..............$ 595 > >Generation X Technologies.....Vision '030A.................$ 995 > >RasterOps.....................ColorBoard 264...............$1295 >RasterOps.....................ColorBoard 108+/SE30.........$1895 My general understanding is that any of the prices above that are < $1000 are built for the Apple monitor only. (I'm not sure about the Generation X card, though.) I understand from Paul Campbell that the Micron unit is cheaper because they make their own chips. Does anyone used one? Seem reliable? Any comments gratefully accepted, TIA... "Meanwhile, on MT.
