[comp.sys.mac.hardware] MacNifty Audio Digitizer Power Adaptor

erk@vax1.acs.udel.EDU (Erik A Hanson) (11/29/89)

I purchased the MacNifty Audio Digitizer a very long time ago, and have
been using it with a 512KE Mac. I know that I need a "power adaptor" to
use it with the Mac Plus. My questions:

  (1) Will that power adaptor work with my SE/30?
  (2) Where can I get said power adaptor? (I have tried to contact MacNifty
many a time, getting responses like MacWhat??)

Somebody suggested that I use the power adaptor from Thunderware's
ThunderScan, but I would rather take a "safer" route if at all possible (if
it is indeed "unsafe" to use Thunderware's power).

Thanks muchly.

Use the Thunderscan adaptor. It is nifty and safe. I use it to support an old
Assimilation brand MIDI adaptor. The T-scan adaptor takes power from the
floppy port (you can still use an external floppy by plugging into the T-scan
adaptor daisy-chain style. No muss, no fuss, no need for an electrical outlet.
It should work absolutely the same on the SE/30, because the floppy port is the
same.

I have the "official" MacNifty power adapter. It is from a company called
Impulse. It wasn't cheap, so if you use your thunderscan adapter you'll
be better off. Incidentally, when I ordered it, the salesman said that
the adapter's were originally designed for Coleco's Adam computer.

Apparently, what Impulse does is take your MacNifty, and splice in this
Adam power supply. The power supply is rather heavy, although the heavy
part mounts on the wall socket. You have to send you MacNifty to Impulse
to get the supply.
