[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Jasmania?

Help! November 27 I ordered a 40MB Jasmine DirectDrive for $599
from Jasmine Technologies. I was told that the drives were not
in stock and it would be "about two weeks" before I receive it.
Since I'm working on a project with a short time frame, I said
two weeks may be a little too long for me to wait. At this, the
salesman replied that he would not charge me shipping if I would
be willing to wait. After being assured that the "two weeks" would
really be "two weeks", I agreed, but with some hesitation.

--two weeks and one day pass--no drive has arrived--

Well, after two calls and about an hour total of being on hold
(I sat through Mannheim Steamroller Christmas in its entirety on
one call) I was told it would be "about two weeks" before I
receive it. After raising holy heck about that, they said "maybe
you'll get it by Friday...or Monday". The problem is, I really
need it on Friday. If not Friday, I'll have to order something
else and hope I get it by Wednesday, December 20, my absolute
drop-dead date for my project.

Should I trust Jasmine to come through? Has anyone else had
a similar experience with them? If I cancel my order, can I
get a similar quality-performance-cost drive from someone else
by the 20th?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My experience with this "company" suggests that you have a better chance
of being billed for their merchandise than actually ever receiving it.
A drive that you don't have doesn't perform very well.
Get out while you still can.
