Recently I've been looking into the 44 Mb removable hard drives that are advertised all over the Mac magazines. From the postings I've seen, some people say their ok, some say they've had problems. I use a unix machine that dates back at least 5 years or so and it has drivers for 5 Mb Syquest cartridges, so I take it that this technology is not new. I read somewhere that Syquest drives didn't do well in the PC market, I think because of reliability problems. Is this why I don't see any advertisements for the 44 Mb cartridge drives in PC magazines? Just about every Mac mail order place seems to sell them. What about Ehman, they seem to be the cheapest? Do they achieve that low price by not including a cartridge? It seems that the prices have dropped considerably from looking at old issues of MacWorld, are any further drops in price expected? What's the difference between a Syquest drive and a Bernoulli drive (Bernoulli seems much more popular in the PC world)? John Kellow kellow@ndcheg.cheg.nd.edu
