[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Recording MacII color images

km@mathcs.emory.edu (Ken Mandelberg) (12/18/89)

Is there any easy way to record MAC II video in color on
a standard VCR? I know of the approach of using an init to
put the standard video card in RS170 mode. However, to get
color from this you need an external RGB->NTSC converter.

I'm wondering if someone makes a color video card for the
MacII that directly can feed a VCR.

Hi Ken, good to talk with you again.

I assume that you mean an *inexpensive* card that can output to a VCR.
Currently, I know of none, although RasterOps is promising that
their 264 board (the $995 24-bit color card) will be able to
be expanded to do this. I also think that SuperMac is working on
something similar, but as of right now, no solutions.

The only card that I know of that can go to videotape easily are
the truevision series, and even then they require an external
conversion box. On the bright side, this conversion box is good,
really good. it is capable of NTSC, S-Video and RGB video either
in or out, and has the broacast quality necessary for commercial
television.

I suspect you'll see some lower priced solutions in the new year,
and probably very soon. In the meantime, we'll try to keep
you posted.

Plenty of them out; the one I use is the Mass Micro Colorspace II
board. It does NTSC & RGB video, and can display a live video
picture with graphics overlaid (digital chroma key). About
$1800 list as I remember. Had it for a while and it has performed
flawlessly. I use it for subtitling and some neat particle
animations.
