There have been at least 3 major attempts to rename net.columbia to either net.shuttle or net.space.shuttle since net.columbia's inception. The 'best' vote the the pro-renamers ever came up with was about 10% in favor of renaming and 90% [mostly violently] opposed. Yes, net.shuttle or net.space.shuttle would make more sense. Yes, it would make it easier for new people on the net. Yes, net.columbia is an inappropriate and sentimental name. Yes, most of us net.columia readers like that and want it to stay that way; and the anarchical nature of the net has kept it that way since its inception. If you really want to raise this issue again, please take a poll via mail and summarize. (BTW, I would like to compliment past readers of net.columbia, both Renamers and Columbiaites, on their very successful attempts to keep voting/discussion like this out of net.columbia and on making net.columbia one of the 'cleanest' newsgroups I've seen). And thanks to the author of the article to which I am replying for indicating the cross-posting. I guess I've spent enough time patting everyone on the back, so I'll sign off now.
