If you folks will put down your portable SRB's I'll be able to remove my
thermal protection system. Thanks. Now look at the quoted part of my
original article above (it was at the end of a summary of the 61-B landing).
You'll see I am not so much as suggesting the possibility of changing the
name of this newsgroup. I'm merely pointing out the sensibility (or lack
thereof) of naming this group after Columbia. I don't for a minute want
to see it renamed net.enterprise. No, if I were going to suggest renaming
it at all [note subjunctive] I would opt for net.space.shuttle. The "reasons"
usually cited for initially naming it net.columbia and retaining that name
just do not wash. Columbia (OV-102) was not the original shuttle, nor will
it ever be. Enterprise (OV-101) is, was, and ever shall be. Just as there
would be confusion from Star Trek fans new to the net were it named after
Enterprise, there is currently confusion over the name net.columbia. I've
read quite a number of misconceptions about the name net.columbia, including
one person who recently stated he thought it was for Columbia University.
The name net.space.shuttle always seemed very natural and logical to me
for what is contained in this newsgroup. If I were going to suggest re-
naming this group, that would be my first choice.

By the way, this article is cross-posted to net.news.group, so be careful
careful to followup only to net.columbia if that is appropriate. Thank you.

Hey! Where are all you Columbia river fans? How about some postings
on that wonderful river?

Or is this group for songs, like "Oh Columbia the gem of the ocean..."?

We are all hibernating for the winter. The river still flows. We will
post news of the Columbia river in the spring and summer in net.rec.nude
(as in Rooster Rock and Sauvies Island) and in net.rec.boat - where they
belong.

And speaking of Columbia as in net.columbia - It got delayed until
Thursday. Should be time for a new satellite schedule. What is the
purpose of this mission, anyway. Haven't heard much about it.
