[comp.sys.mac.hardware] 10MB Tecmar serial drive

davely@mcrware.UUCP (Dave Lyons) (01/04/90)

My brother recently bought a used Mac that had been upgraded
from a 512 to a Plus by way of a Dove add on board. With the
machine he got an old 10 MB Tecmar drive that interfaces via the
modem serial port. The system software he got with it was 4.1.
Does anyone know if this drive can be made to work with system
6.0.X (or even some version of 5 would be better) or should he
just use it as the first exhibit in a museum of ancient Mac tech-
nology ?

Thanks for any info.

First, it can't be made to work with 6.0.X (unless you're a Mac wizard
and good with Macsbug, and know the System like the back of your hand
and know the details of the Tecmar, etc., etc.).

Second, I also have one of these beasts, but mine does not work. I got
it from work, where it was repaired once by Tecmar (all they did was
replace the guts). It appeared to me (by the failure symptom) that it
was some power-supply problem rather than a drive problem. Does anyone
know where I might be able to find a schematic for one of these things ?
Otherwise, Dave, tell your brother if he gets sick of his I'll take it
off his hands for a FEW bucks. Maybe I can get mine to work if I have
a working one to measure.

Please E-Mail any replies. Thanks.
