[comp.sys.mac.hardware] coprocessors for the mac...

Three sets of questions:

1) 68882 vs. 68881. I have been told that the 68882 is pin compatible with the
68881. If this is true, can I replace the 68881 in my now-obsolete Mac II with
a 16 MHz 68882? Will it work and if it does, will I see any performance in-
crease? Also, are current compilers out there, e.g. THINK C 4.0, that generate
inline code for the 68881 compatible with the 68882?

2) 68851 PMMU. Now that the prices have begun to become reasonable on these
chips ($130-$150) is it worth getting one in anticipation of System 7.0 for my
aforementioned obsolete Mac II? If anyone has already done this have they
experienced any incompatibilties?

3) Old ROMS for the Mac II. A few years ago (maybe last year) I remember that
Apple had fixed a bug in the Mac II's ROM. Something about a 1 meg address
barrier in NuBus or something. Since I have the old ROMs, should I try to
get a dealer to swap motherboards? I'm never really going to get a NuBus
card that has RAM installed on it (i.e. a National Semiconductor 20 zillion
megabyte board), but I am leery of other "silent" ROM changes that I may need
in the future...

Please respond via email and I will post a summary if asked...
Thanks in advance!
