I have an old 512K mac that I have had for about 4 1/2 years. During that time the screen would occasionally go crazy, either distorting the image on the screen, or even looking completely out of sync. As I did not have Apple Care and could not afford the prices the local mac shops wanted just to look at it, I found a solution that was effective -- a sharp bang on the left side always took care of the problem, usually for several months. Now I have a different problem that is very similar. After the machine has been left on a while, the video will go completely blank at random intervals, and then sometime later, i.e. 15 min. to 2 hours later, the video will come back. Unfortunately, banging on the side only makes the video flash, not come back. I could probably afford to have it fixed, but I don't know if it's worth it for that machine. Before I take it into the shop, however, can anyone tell me what the problem might be, and if it will most likely be expensive? Any information is appreciated. Dave Barnhart NCR Corp.
