My friends Mac SE has a problem. She was running MS Word and spell checking when the computer seemed to go into never-never land (the "watch" icon stayed on screen for several minutes). So she hit the reset button on the side to reboot. Well the disk with the question mark appeared. Oh no, the hard disk was gone! I went over and tried using the HD Setup program on the Utilities floppy. Well it couldn't even find device #0. Instead a message like "Unable to find valid driver interface on SCSI port" came up. So to all you hardware folks out there, can you confirm something? I told her that it must be hardware related (either the controller board on the SCSI drive itself or the interface hardware on the motherboard). I doubt it's just a loose cable since the problem appeared suddenly with no prior indication. I told her to take it to the dealer (I just don't have any CMI drive controller boards lying around). Did I guess right? If so, what could cause the electronics to freak out like that? There wasn't any static around. Just doesn't make sense.... Cliff Yamamoto
