[comp.sys.mac.hardware] hardware pc boards for mac II

rlong@phonon.eng.ohio-state.edu (Prof. Ronald Long) (02/03/90)

I have SoftPC on my IIcx and love it. It does what I want
to do and the speed is good enough.

But I know of another party (not able to get on net) who
finds it too slow for his purpose.

What is the latest on hardware boards for the Mac II line?
Who makes pc plug in boards, what are the prices, and how
well do they work? Is the system as seamless as SoftPC?

Thanks.

There is one board for the Mac II line named Mac286 made by Orange Micro. It
sells for $1099 in the discount mail order houses. It's supposed to be a two
board affair (I think it takes up two NuBus slots). I don't have one so I
can't comment on it. However, the blurbs claim that it's approximately 6 times
faster than "software-based solutions" (I assume they mean SoftPC) and it's
compatible with 90% of AT software and has a variety of video output formats
such as CGA, etc.
