[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Help with Panasonic typewriter

vossron@Apple.COM (Ronald N. Voss) (02/08/90)

I gave my father my old Mac Plus. He simultaneously wanted a new electronic
typewriter, so we settled on the Panasonic KX-R435 which can double as a
computer printer (about $250; he wanted the typewriter and didn't want to pay
for a separate ImageWriter or such). The KX-R435 can be fitted with an
available KX-R60 Interface Adapter which turns it into (forgive me) a
Centronics port. Then we could get an Orange Micro Grappler (the nine-pin
version?) for about $80 and make it look like a draft ImageWriter.

But wait! The connector on the side of the typewriter is the same as the
Mac's serial ports! My question: Does anybody *know* what this typewriter
expects in this port? Is the KX-R60 secretly a parallel-to-serial adapter?
Seems kinda silly to daisy-chain a s/p i/f to a p/s i/f when I wanted to go
serial-serial in the first place. I'm somehow reluctant to just hook it
up to see if it works.

Anyone know this beast?

Thanks in advance.
