i don't know if this is really a hardware problem or not. but... i recently backed up my harddisk (80meg apple internal on a MacII) to tape via DiskFit. i then reinitialize my disk, followed by restoring all the files from the tape - again using DiskFit. now, with no particular pattern, i get a very strange behavior *sometimes* on simply trying to open a folder. (and random folder as far as i can tell.) the behavior is that the whole screen goes empty (not blank), then the configuration of the screen goes to the one immediately following startup. normally after this strange "resetting" the machine will just behave normally. but, a varient on this (that happens much less frequently) is that the mouse can still be moved, but the machine pays no attention what so ever to buttoning the mouse. a virus detector (Disinfectant 1.5) finds nothing wrong, *except* it says that the Desktop file has been touched by WDEF. this ofcourse made me want to initialize the Desktop. the question is - how do you do that? and what else might i try? [i am running MacOS 6.1.4.] ---jon--- ------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Sticklen Artificial Intelligence/Knowledge Based Systems Group Computer Science Department Michigan State University East Lansing, MI 48824-1027 517-353-3711 FAX: 517-336-1061 -------------------------------------------------------------
