Apparently I caused some confusion when I stated that a 2400 bps modem was operating at 1200 baud. Modems common in North America use the V.22bis standard which runs at 600 baud. The modem I was thinking of used the V.26tir standard which runs at 1200 baud. V.26tir is a worldwide standard (as is V.22bis), but it doesn't seem to be real common. Anyway, I thought some of you might be interested in just how many "standards" there are. Here's some data from the January '90 issue of MacUser. It came from an article about 9600 bau...WHOOPS! I mean 9600 bps modems.
