[comp.sys.mac.hardware] V.32 Modem Recommendations

hoyme@SRC.Honeywell.COM (Ken Hoyme) (02/24/90)

I have been following the discussions on high-speed modems and thought I would
toss in my $0.02 worth.

My company recently bought me a MultiTech Systems MultiModemV32 for working at
home. It is a V.32 compatible modem with full Hayes command set. It also has
MNP Class 2, 3 & 4 Error Correction and Class 5 Data Compression. (It also
supports the CCITT V.25bis standard for synchronous & asynchronous dialing).
With compression and error correction running I can reliably talk to the
machines at work from my Mac at home with the port set at 19,200 to handle the
speed. I cannot tell too much difference between calling from home and using
the Sun at work.

I am not sure whether we have negotiated a corporate price break, but I
believe we paid in the range of $600-650 for this unit. If people are
interested I can call them and find out there exact price. They were able to
ship to us from stock (something we could not get from U.S Robotics at the
time these were purchased).

I have had no problems with this unit. We have owned a number of their 2400
baud units over the past few years and have not heard any complaints. They
can be reached at:
