[comp.sys.mac.hardware] 25-pin SCSI terminator?

mjkobb@mit-amt.MEDIA.MIT.EDU (Michael J Kobb) (02/21/90)

Hi,

Also on the subject of LaCie drives: Does anybody know where I'd find a
25-pin SCSI terminator block? I'd like to be able to take my LaCie in to work
and not have it be the only drive connected to the Mac (that Mac has several
SCSI devices). It would, therefore, be easier if I could get a 25-pin SCSI
terminator block for the 25-pin connectors on the LaCie. Yes, I could connect
it last in line with a 25->50 pin cable, but what if I want to use TWO LaCie
drives?

  Suggestions?

Thanks,
--Mike

I have two Lacie's and I can not find any of these beasties. I don't know if
anyone makes them.

Remember, the second drive comes with a second 25 to 25 pin cable. The idea is
to remove the terminators from the Lacies and put them between the mac and the
other drives.

By the way ... I HATE it when disk manufacturers (such as miniscribe and
Quantum) put the terminator power for their internal terminators on the wrong
side of the bus power isolation diode. By just moving this one line, all the
problems of one drive on and one drive off could be eliminated. And from what I
can tell, it is still compatible with the SCSI standard.

But then, does anybody feel like cutting a run and resoldering it on their hard
drive? :-)

(Hope this helps!)

One (somewhat unusual?) place that has 25-pin terminators is GW Instruments.
They make NuBus and SCSI Data Acquisition products for the Macintosh, and
use the DB-25 style SCSI cables. Presumably they're wired the same as
LaCie's.

I'm not sure of the price; I only worked there as a software engineer last
summer. Anyone seen their SoftPanel easy-to-use data acquisition program?

I bought a LighteningScan from ThunderWare Inc., and it came with a
SCSI control box and a DB25 SCSI Terminator frob. You might could
call up LighteningScan folks and see where they get 'em from.
