[comp.sys.mac.hardware] HELP! My Cutting Edge Extended Keyboard is giving me trouble

jlc@atux01.UUCP (J. Collymore) (03/03/90)

My 1+ year old Cutting Edge Extended Keyboard is giving me trouble. THe
problem is that it will not always work after booting up (that is, there is no
response from the keyboard when hitting any key). I would say that this now
happens 1 out of every 3 boots. I have it connected to a Mac SE running system
6.0.2. It has never been trouble until the past 10 days.

I have tried changing the connecting point on the keyboard from the left side
to the right side. I have tried switching the ADB ports its connected to on the
back of the Mac. None of these sollutions seem to work. I called Cutting
Edge/Ehman and they said it is out of warranty, and they also don't have the
facilities to fix it. They suggested I take it to an Apple dealer to have it
fixed. Well, I just called a local Apple dealer and they said they would not
fix a third party key board.

So what do some of you suggest? Should I try to find another dealer who might
try to fix it? Should I have my Mac examined (it seems to work fine, and the
mouse is operating perfectly from either one of the Mac ports.)? Should I save
my money and buy another third party keyboard from a different vendor (there's
a nice one by Keytronics in this issue of MacUser)? Should I just go out and
buy an official Apple Extended keyboard? Please post your replies to the net.

Thanks for your help.

p.s. I wonder what I can expect from Cutting Edge/Ehman Engineering when I
start having problems with my 60Mb external hard drive I bought last year?!
