Does anyone know of any advantages for a third party keyboard for the SE30?

Yes. You don't have to buy APPLE. But seriously, prior to the recent
announcement of a 1 year warranty (way to go, APPLE!), I recommended third
party everything, excepting the CPU. Now, with a decent warranty, I am not
quite so pissed off at Apple. But, I do really like the DataDesk 101
keyboard. This is the one that Jerry Pournelle puts in the shower when he
spills a drink on it, and it still works! I dont
do that, but then I have been lucky so far and have not spilled anything on
it! I use Apple and my DataDesk keyboards interchangeble all day long, and
while they are very different in key response, I have trouble saying I like
one over the other. Well, I like the feel of the DataDesk, but I like the
silence of the Apple. But, the very thing that gives the DataDesk its great
feel is the thing that makes it noisy. Oh well.
DataDesk gives great service. Apple sucks. One time when I upgraded from
some machine to another, or maybe it was operating systems, the thing stopped
working right. They sent, free, a new IC to put in. BINGO! It worked. Same
for software fixes. Gotta go, but love that DataDesk 101!
