[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Summary of responses: Peripheral Outlet SIMMs

grobbins@grad1.cis.upenn.edu (03/13/90)

Fourteen people responded to my posted query about Peripheral Outlet
SIMMs. Specifically, I asked if anyone had actually received the
$61 price on SIMMs which had been advertised for a month in MacWeek.
Only one person had.

The good news: every respondent who had purchased from P.O. was happy
with the prices and service they received. There were also hints that
they will bargain on prices and terms, and they may be willing to buy
  256K SIMMs.

The bad news: For a month, P.O.'s ads proclaimed "100/80/70 ns $61".
That was misleading: from the responses, it appears that only the
100 ns SIMMs were ever priced at $61, and those were, apparently,
never in stock. The one respondent who did receive a $61 price was
in fact shipped faster RAM. Many respondents were interested in the
slower speed and lower priced chips, but were told that they were not
  available.

Based on the responses I've received, it appears that P.O.'s ads
are deceptive, and their offer possibly fraudulent. On the other
hand, their customers appear quite satisfied, and it might be that
they were caught by the vagaries of the RAM market.

Notes: P.O.'s ad in this week's MacWeek says "$63 100/80/70 ns"
It seems more than reasonable to insist that they provide those products
  for $63. Their surcharges are typically $3.50 UPS, $3 COD, 3% MC/Visa.

Thanks to all net readers who responded and
volunteered information.
