For all you intrepid folks who open the case on Mac SE's that have an internal hard disk: Be careful and make sure that the SCSI connection is firmly seated in both sockets when you put it all back together. Apparently, when I put mine together again, one end of the ribbon cable was not making contact with the logic board. Turned it back on and ... nothing. I opened it back up, spotted the error, and reseated the connector. Turned it back on and ... still nothing. Apparently, I toasted my SCSI chip on the logic board. It'll boot from a floppy, but not from any SCSI drive (I tried an external one, too). The fix: replace the logic board. I got a quote for $350. (Being the pessimist, I expected at least $1000, so I was pleasantly surprised.) Moral: be bloody careful. (Strange that a loose data cable would do that - we used to mess up data cables on pcs all the time to no ill effect.) --bri -- Brian Kenney ...!uunet!hsi!kenney Health Systems International kenney@hsi.com
