Greetings, Some of you may remember that about 3 weeks ago, my LaCie 105 died (I think the SCSI controller died, but I'm not sure). Anyway, I called LaCie, and they issued an RMA number. I shipped it to them FederalExpress 2nd day air on the 26th of February, and was told that it would probably be ~1-1/2 weeks before I got it back. Well, it came back today (which is, you'll note, 2-1/2 weeks). They replaced the drive mechanism completely, and gave me a new serial number. I don't know if the warranty is now restarted from the date of replacement, but it doesn't make much difference, since it's only a few months old anyway, and the warranty is FIVE YEARS!!! What really impressed me powerfully was that the technician who repaired my drive was considerate enough to move all of the data from the old mechanism to the new one. All ~80 Meg. Anyone who has ever backed up a big HD from floppy will know how much time that saved me! All in all, I'm tickled pink. LaCie was very responsible and friendly dealing with my problem. They were absolutely scrupulous about returning my calls, although we did end up playing answering-machine tag a few times. Although it took them a week longer than they had indicated to replace the drive, the 1-1/2 week figure was never a promise, and I consider 2-1/2 weeks to be a totally reasonable period of time to wait (especially considering the horror stories about dear, departed Jasmine). To top it all off, they saved my data! What more could I ask? Jasmine makes really nice, small, fast, quiet drives, and I recommend them to everybody! --Mike Disclaimer: I think that disclaimers are an incredibly sad statement about our society. Nonetheless, nothing that I say can or should be construed as having been said by anyone. Ever.

Obviously, I meant LaCie, not Jasmine. I wouldn't recommend Jasmine to my worst enemies (well, maybe a few.....). --Mike Disclaimer: I think that disclaimers are an incredibly sad statement about our society.
