[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Summary of Modem recommendations

psu@mtuni.ATT.COM (Paul Siu) (03/16/90)

Unfortunately, I lost most of the modem responses, but I'll try to fill some of
the details in.

I purchases a ZOOM modem directly from ZOOM last year.

I have never had an ounce of trouble from it, and at that time the were

offering a SEVEN year warranty. I bought it for approx. $135 with the

seven year warranty. I figured that I'd have a 9600 bps by the time the

warranty wears out. This would be my recommendation. And it is a personal

opinion. Oh yea, it's external, comes with db8 to rs232 cable, manual, and

lots of free joins to various bulletin board systems.

I know you can buy one from MacConnection.

I gotten the most responses for the Supra modem, all of it was positive. Users
liked the price, and the modem's flawlessly performance. Earlier modem however
had some line-noise problem. Supra modem can be brought from Mail order for as
low as $115.

               --------------------------------------------

I have gotten a few responses for Promethuses modem. A number of user praised
its support. Price is a bit more than Supra.

                ---------------------------------------------

I have gotten 2 response for Practical Perpherial. Family computing review
said it's support staff is very helpful. A similar praise from a certain user
who live by his practical perpherial modem, and nothing else.
