I find I have about $1250-$2000 that I have to spend very soon, that I can use to get hardware so that I can do more serious speech research on my IIci than is possible with the 8-bit digitization provided by MacRecorder. I have some nice software for speech analysis, waveform editing, etc. (`Signalyze'), but I need A/D & D/A at 12 or 16 bits and at appropriate sampling rates for speech (only). Can someone give me a rundown on what's available in this price range, comparative advantages, etc.? Do any available boards with DSP chips do A/D as well as signal coprocessing, and if so what sort of software do they support (or vice versa)? As I say, this money evaporates very soon, so I'd be grateful for any and all information right away.
