[comp.sys.mac.hardware] SyQuest 45's.

Just wanted to say that I bought an APS a-45R (SyQuest) drive a few weeks ago
and its working like a champ. Some things to consider:

1) price: $699 (incl. 1 cartridge, extra's at $72.50, possibly $76)
2) noise: whisper quiet.
3) version: the new 30000 MTBF version, ROM version F7C.
4) software:true SCSI partitioning, verify/format, benchmark which runs on
all drives so you can compare.
5) waranty: 2 years on drive, 1 on cartridges.
6) termination: internal, but removable, technician wasn't sure if removing
internal and using external would remove need to turn on, he did
say that termination power from mac is passed through box.
7) power: international power supply: works in europe as well as USA.
8) pd-soft: comes with some useful PD software, though not a whole lot.
9) service: I talked to them a few times and they seemed most cooporative,
even when I wanted to talk to a tech-type about termination.
10) SCSI address: dip-switch on back of unit can select any address.

I can't say I have seen anything better on the net, certainly not in price.

If you are interested, call them at 1-800-233-7550. I doubt you'll regret
it!
