[net.columbia] booster rockets

On tv tonight I saw a view of the challenger explosion showing
the two boosters in the few seconds after they came out of the
fire-ball and before they were destroyed. They seems to come
out of the fire-ball out of control, corkscrew some, and then regain
control and appeared to turn upward as if by some logical guidance.
The footage was not carried far enough to show the destruction of the
boosters. Anyway, these views made me wonder if someone did not
have some minimal guidance control over those boosters before they
were blasted by the range officer. So far on the net, I have
read both points of view--one that no guidance is even provided;
and two that it is provided but with control only from the shuttle
itself.  Here's
hoping that this will bring out some more discussion on the subject.
