It has taken a long time to happen, but the disk images for System Software 6.0.5 are now available on Apple.com for anonymous FTP. These files are in a special sw.license directory. You may FTP files from this directory, but you may NOT legally redistribute these files electronically. By downloading these files, you are also bound to the terms and conditions in the End User License Agreement found in the same directory. In addition, each of the files has this agreement prepended to its BinHex form. You need to read and remove these headers before decoding the file. PLEASE WAIT UNTIL NON-PRIMETIME HOURS TO DOWNLOAD THESE FILES. Each image is over 800K in size, and this much traffic during peak hours must be avoided. The BinHex files produce StuffIt files of the disk images. When you UnStuff these files, you will get DiskCopy documents. DiskCopy is an application from Apple for producing exact disk images and for creating floppy disks from these images. You also need to download DiskCopy for these images to be of any use to you. WARNING: DiskCopy is currently incompatible with SUM II and SAM from Symantec. If you get errors or problems with DiskCopy, check to see if these are the problem. We are currently working with our Software License department to allow further redistribution of these files and to allow us to post other licensed software. Until that time, please don't ask why other things are not posted and do not further redistribute these files. To get System Software 6.0.5... anonymous ftp to Apple.com (130.43.2.2) with password guest. Look in ~ftp/pub/dts/sw.license get the Read Me file and the End User License Agreement. Once you have read these, get DiskCopy and the disk images. All disk images are prefixed by 605i. If you don't know if you want to upgrade to 6.0.5, then you may want to read the DRAFT change history or user-level technical information on 6.0.5 documents which are also available in this directory. After getting the files... Read and remove the license prepended to each file Decode the files with BinHex then StuffIt Run DiskCopy to produce original floppy disks Boot your machine with the Systems Tools disk and run the Installer...
