[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Installing Simms, etc.

pdel@zodiac.ADS.COM (Peter Delevoryas) (03/20/90)

Hi, a few weeks ago I asked for help with a problem I had after I
put some more memory in my Plus. I was getting ID=02 errors when booting
or restarting. Well, I probably should have mentioned that I was running
a Hard drive w/approx 40-50 meg of stuff on it, and that the Plus would
boot fine off a floppy system disk, but not the hard disk.

I initially suspected a hardware problem; perhaps installed the Simms wrong,
etc., but this turned out not to be the case, since I reseated the Simms
three times.

Turns out that the fix was at the end of the 6.0.4 system software manual,
where it basically says that if you are getting errors like mine, you might
not have enough finder memory. So, I went to the finder and lo and behold it
has only 160k of memory. Just to test, I give it 1meg of memory and Voila! -
it boots up (quite a bit faster than before) and NO ERRORS! Even after numerous
restarts.

Maybe if someone has a similar problem this will help. Thanks for all who
responded to me with suggestions, though. I was glad to know there are people
here willing to lend a hand.
