[] I didn't notice any previous cross-postings. I would like to summarize as best I can what has been proposed in net.columbia so far, with crossover to net.news.group, which is where new groups and name changes are supposed to be discussed. Just at my site I have seen several postings independently propose a name change for net.columbia --> net.challenger. Many others have concurred. Others are no doubt on their way to this site. Others have suggested that, while appropriate, we might do better to not dwell on the past, and have proposed a change to net.space.shuttle . Perhaps one other good suggestion, and one with which I heartily concur, was that we wait through the 30-day mourning period and resume the name-change discussion on [I think my math is right] February 27. I would add that we should have this discussion in net.news.group, unless anyone has good suggestions to the contrary. There has been no question that we all wish to do something to commemorate the loss of the shuttle Challenger and of her seven brave crew- members. I personally intend to make d*mn sure my congressmen [and -women] know that the space program MUST go on. I am certain that we can, all of us, rise to the challenge that Challenger leaves behind. Let's wait 30 days before name change discussion. I'm telling my congressmen and NASA that I think "Challenger II" should be the name of the spacegoing section of a fully-reusable shuttle. I'm also pointing out that Congress should not try to reserve the name for American craft. It would suit me fine if it is pronounced with a British or French accent. -- Scot E. Wilcoxon Minn. Ed.
