I'm looking for a way to automatically backup our 20 macs to a single tape drive every night. I am aware that MacDump does this through a Unix box, but I'd rather have something that sits on the localtalk network. If you have seen or heard (or preferably used) anything remotely like this, please drop me a note. BTW, if you have used MacDump, I am interested in your opinions... Some thoughts on the subject: Jasmine markets (or used to) an AppleShare server box. This box should do nicely as a platform for a backup server. Just write new software, and add a 2GByte tapedrive to the box... advTHANKSance, anderss@uplog.se -- Real life: Anders Sjolund Email: anderss@uplog.se Snail mail: TeleLOGIC Uppsala AB Phone: +46 18 189409 Box 1218 Fax: +46 18 132039 S - 751 42 Uppsala, Sweden

For my pourposes I just wanted on clean dump that I could restore to any drive. I find it to be rather well done if you want to do incremetal backups, and the fact that existing equipment could be used made it rather attractive. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> <> :-{ :-\<> Russell Cattelan University of Minnesota <> <> :-} :-`) <> cattelan@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu <> <> :-) :-( <> {...!rutgers!umn-cs!cattelan} <> <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Make sure you make the Finder's Suggested Memory Size a LOT bigger if you do this under MultiFinder. --------- Tom Evans tom@wcc.oz.au | Webster Computer Corp P/L | "The concept of my 1270 Ferntree Gully Rd | existence is an Scoresby VIC 3179 | approximation" Australia | 61-3-764-1100 FAX ...764-1179 | D.
