[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Marathon '030 SE Accelerator Card

clye@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Christopher Lye) (03/21/90)

I was hunting around for an '030 accelerator card for my SE since I
wanted the speed and the PMMU chip. Most of the prices I was looking at
were around the $900 area. However, I called Dove to find out more about
their cards and was informed that their new SE '030 accelerator card is
now in the testin stage and that if all goes well it should be released
in early April.

What made me pause was the price of this card. The rep told me that the
list price for this card will be about $699. However, she also added
that they were looking at a market price of less than $500!!!. So for
all those people who are thinking about getting an accelerator card and
are either looking at the $900 '030 cards from Total or the $428 '020
cards, you might consider waiting a couple of months.

I saw the ad for this card from MacConnection in the May MacWorld. It is
listed for $449!! I called the MacConnection rep. as soon as I could, and
asked about it. He says that it should be available in 3 to 4 weeks. It will
run at 16Mhz, and have space for 4MB of RAM (he thinks). This last part makes
me nervous, because the picture of the card looks like it only has space for 2
SIMMs. Arrgh--that would be a serious limitation. Does anyone have more
concrete specs. on this card? It looks like a winner!
