The way to "rename" a newgroup is to delete the old and create the new. Someone has figured out how to create "net.challenger". The remaining step is to destroy the old group. Destroying net.columbia would prematurely cancel several hundred news articles, and it would lose subscribers who don't know enough to subscribe to net.challenger. (Some news reading programs don't automatically tell you when a new newsgroup has come along.) Worst of all, perhaps, are the symbolic connotations of ritually destroying the namesake of the first space shuttle. Let's drop the "rename the newsgroup" fervor. There are much better ways of remembering the lost seven astronauts, as discussed in several articles in net.columbia. -=- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!tekecs!andrew) [UUCP] (tekecs!andrew.tektronix@csnet-relay) [ARPA]
