Jeff Siegel, Op from Atherton Hall <JXS118@psuvm.psu.edu> (04/12/90)
Our dormitory owns and operates its own computer lab. We have 5 Mac SE with 1 Meg memory, 2 disk drives & no hard disks. The SEs are very popular for word-processing, they are in constant use almost 24 hrs a day. Because of this they tend to breakdown often. Usually the disk drives go first, but I've also seen power supplies die, motherboards, etc. Anybody have suggestions on preventive maintenance that might reduce the number of breakdowns? Such things as leaving the computers on all day (They frequently get turned off only to be turned back on 2 minutes later), cleaning disk drives, etc... Please e-mail me, I will post a summary of responses I receive. Jeff Siegel JXS118 at PSUVM at PSUVM.BITNET at PSUVM.PSU.EDU (depending on where you are)
