We're having problems with a Mac II that our department shares. Any time a disk is put into the floppy drive it takes 4 times as long to read the disk as normal. Opening the disk or anything in the disk takes an inordinate amount of time, as well as transferring files between the floppy and hard drive. The Mac has 8 Meg of memory, a 40 Meg hard drive (of which 8 Meg is free), one floppy drive and a monochrome monitor. I ran Disinfectant and found "WDEF A" in the desktop twice so I rebuilt the desktop by holding the control and option key down while rebooting. The floppy worked fine until I ejected it and put in a different one. I should note that the drive works fine when I boot with a system disk in it. It sounds like a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Any ideas? Jack
