[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Replacing a Seagate ST251 drive with ST171 -- formating

bwbecker@watdragon.waterloo.edu (Byron Weber Becker) (05/03/90)

The drive in my CMS hard disk gave out recently. It was a 40M
Seagate ST251. I replaced it with a ST171, a 49M, 28ms drive.
I used the CMS formatting utility which came with the original
drive and everything works.

QUESTION: Did the old utility get the interleave factor and whatever
other parameters there may be correct for optimum performance? I
believe the only relevent differences are the size (40M vs 46M,
formatted) and speed (38ms vs 28ms).

Thanks for any help.
