>Has anyone out there done memory upgrades to their DeskJet or DeskJet+ >printers from HP? >Do you have to do it 'their' way? Or can one just put some memory chips >into the machine oneself? I'm afraid you can't just put memory chips into the units. Also, extra RAM is only used for download fonts. >Second Question: is it possible to replace the communication controller of >a DJ, which can only run at 19.2kbaud, with that of the DJ+ which can run >at 57.6kbaud? (This would enable the use of a high-speed serial to >parallel converter to communicate via the centronics parallel connection on >these printers, and make such a connection useful). First, the DJ+ CAN'T run at 57.6Kbaud. Second, neither unit can be upgraded to run at 57.6Kbaud, only the DeskWriter's serial port runs at this speed. Third, why would a fast serial port make any difference in the speed that you ship data to your parallel port? The high speed serial to parallel converters rely on high speed serial from the Mac, not from the printer. Steven Miller Vancouver Division Hewlett Packard
