[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Miniscribe 9380S

isle@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Ken Hancock) (05/03/90)

Has anyone had any experiences with a Miniscribe 9380S
380MB SCSI drive? I'm thinking of purchasing one at
closeout prices and am wondering whether anyone has any
caveats or positive things to say about them.

Thanks in advance --

Ken

Oh, well, I guess that's me. Yeah. Well, I have had a 9380S for about 30 day
s now. No problems to report except that I'm pissed off that even 380 MBytes
fills up too bloody fast :-(. The only thing I uld mention is a totally
subjective FEELING about the drive. It's not very fast. Mind you, the specs
say it is 16ms and when I ran SCSI Evaluator on it, it said "Sure enough,
this sucker is a 16ms drive." but it doesn't FEEL as fast as my old 18ms
160 Mbyte drive that I traded up from. However, the specs do not lie, it is
a 16ms drive, it just feels to me more like a 40ms. Other than that, though,
I have enjoye
