[net.columbia] Some more thoughts on Challanger Loss

sob@neuro1.UUCP (Stan Barber) (02/05/86)

I had a lengthly discussion with a few of my friends at NASA.
The following interesting facts came to light.
1. This was the first launch from Pad 39B. Prevsious lauches were
from 39A.
2. The SRBs are shipped in sections to Kennedy as are NOT assembled
by the company that makes them. (I found this interesting, but it
may be typical of the contracting environment of NASA.)
3. Rockwell did indeed call to advise that the icicles on the Shuttle
disturbed them and suggested the launch be scrubbed. NASA did not
agree.
