[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Service Charges

rt2@cunixb.cc.columbia.edu (Rens Troost) (05/29/90)

It is stupid to take your machine to a retail outlet for service,
where you will help them pay their exhorbitant rent. There are lots of
people out there who do it for less.

I have dealt with RJS Associates, who charged me only $75/hour plus parts.
They were pretty nice, and my troubles (screen and Power supply) have not
recurred.

Usual disclaimers apply.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but ain't $75/hr quite high?! I work at
an Apple authorized Service Center (and VAR) and we charge $55/hr.
That's if _we_ come to you, pick up the machine, fix it on-the-spot if
possible (carry around some tools), or take it into the shop and fix it
up. Delivery within one day. It's $45/hr if _you_ bring us your Mac.

Maybe I'll tell the owner to jack up the price, eh? :-)

You should look for other dealers, not all dealers charge huge service
fees. We only charge our customers $45.00 per hour plus parts. I think
$75.00 is a little high. We also garantee our work. We have been an
authorized Apple dealer since 1979. So remember not all dealers are
alike................
