ok, another question for you hardware hackers out there... Firstly, we have an established appletalk network, and are interested in adding a connection to several machines which are on the order of 30 to 50 feet from the nearest point on the current chain. Secondly, we are cheap... We would prefer to use phonenet(turbonet, whatever) on the remote machines, and for the 30-50' connector to the existing chain. Now for the question... I have opened up an appletalk node box, and a phonenet node box. It is obvious that the appletalk costs at least 3x more in parts, which I suppose justifies the 3x retail cost (if only the parts totaled > $5 I'd be impressed...) Anyway, there is no *obvious* comparison between the boxes, SO... are the signal levels in the two nets compatible, and if so, which wire on the phone-net (standard phone wiring, yellow & black wires) goes to which wire on the appletalk cable (standard appletalk cabling, blue & white wires)? In an emergency I can always pull out my scope and take a look at these buggers, but I don't like the idea of dragging it to the office, so I thought I would search the Net.wisdom first.. Thanks Will Ray
