[comp.sys.mac.hardware] 512K upgrade potential

bartlett@xenna.Encore.COM (John Bartlett) (06/01/90)

A quick history question. My dad has a 512K (i.e. pre-Mac+ machine). He
would like to upgrade to at least 1 Meg. to get a decent spell checker to
run.

1. I have 256K simms available. Will they go in his machine?

2. Can he put a SCSI external hard disk on his machine? Or does he need some
other approach to get hard disk capability?

Thanks.

J.B.

John, I would recommend getting one of the numerous upgrades to a Mac
Plus, which would give you the 1 meg memory, and a SCSI port. The 512
doesn't have a SCSI port, so a SCSI drive can't be used. Also you would
get the Mac Plus ROMs, which are still supported by Apple. the 512 ROMs
are no longer supported. I beleive you need the plus ROMS to use the 1 meg
of memory...Good Luck
