[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Help! Serial Port Wedged

jjoshua@topaz.rutgers.edu (Jon Joshua) (06/12/90)

I just unpacked my Mac+ after three weeks of storage and travel. When
I send something to the modem it gets echoed and the mac crashes.
This happens using various terminal programs.

Everything was working before I took the Mac travelling. I think that
3 weeks of no-use might have put the battery configuration in a
confused state but I'm not sure.

When things go south, I get a level 4 interrupt from TMON. When I try
to use the modem from the printer port I get a message saying that the
port could not be allocated.

Try removing the battery for 30 minutes. This will clear the battery RAM
which, among other things, contains serial port settings. You'll need to
reset your clock and other control panel settings, however. A public
program called PRAM came out ages ago which allowed selective clearing of
battery RAM. You may find a copy still floating around.
