If picture quality means much to you, avoid it. The focus is quite inferrior to
the Apple mointors (which are abundant around campus here) and there is no easy
way for a user to fix this problem. Mine has also developed a strobing flicker
along the left side of the screen which is quite annoying (and this after only
a short time). I am using the RasterOps 264 card (its excellent in terms of
quality, but not speed).

The monitor is usable, so if *price* is your number one consideration (and the
discount is hefty enough on the NEC) go for it; just dont expect great things
from the picture quality.

I too was looking for a less expensive monitor to use with my IIcx. I loved
the price of the MacSync and had been pleased with the NEC MultiSync monitors
on the PC's. I decided to purchase the MacSync. I ended up returning it in
three days. My biggest gripe was the the screen seemed fuzzy when compared
with the AppleColor RGB. It also could not display the standard desktop
pattern (50/50 Gray) correctly (or any other small repeating bitmap for that
matter). The desktop looked like diamonds instead of squares. The colors
also looked a little washed out. I also experienced headaches after using this
monitor for a couple of hours. I ended up the an AppleColor RGB from
MacExpress. It was $625 including shipping. It was well worth the extra
$ in my opinion. I will say that if you are buying the IIcx for playing games
the MacSync would probably work out ok. Its just that it is not too good for
displaying small details, word processing, etc. I hope this helps.

Todd.

P.S. I would definitely try to spend some time using one at your local dealer if
it is possible. They gave me a little grief when I returned it.

Compared to the Apple Trinitron monitor, it's fuzzy, grainy, curved in
two directions, and aesthetically unappealing. I would not recommend it.
