People, Earlier, I posted a request for information on serial boards for the Macintosh. As a result of the responses I received, I purchased a CommCard from Taniwha Systems in Berkeley, California. I am quite happy with the CommCard as it adds 4 additional configurable serial ports to my Macintosh IIfx. However, all is not well. Whereas applications like Versaterm and UMail work very well with the CommCard, many (in fact the vast majority of Macintosh applications) are difficult, at best, to use with a serial card. Please note: _This_ _is_ _NOT_ _a_ _problem_ _with_ _CommCard_. It seems that a vast majority of Macintosh applications assume that the only serial ports available are the traditional "modem" and "printer" ports. Newer applications, e.g., the latest version of Versaterm, allow you to select from any currently available serial port -- _including_ _any_ _additional_ _ports_ _made_ _available_ _on _serial_ _cards_. This message is a plea to all Macintosh product vendors. Please realize that it is now possible, and has been possible for some time, for Macs to have more than the standard two default serial ports. Please do what you can to allow users to have the possibility of choosing other ports. -- Ed Berard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edward V.
