I have become frustrated at the slow graphics on my 8-bit color Mac II system. My communications program can't keep up the scrolling of text coming from my 9600 baud modem when in 8-bit mode. I have to wait for complex graphs to be drawn under Excel. I'm wondering what the cheapest ways are to speed up the graphics at least 100% (i.e. double the speed). Will Apple's 24GC card provide the speedup I'm looking for? Are there any third party graphics accelerators? If I can only get the speedup by upgrading to a faster 24-bit card, that's ok. I'd like to stay under $1,000, but if I also get 24-bit color, $1,500 is ok. One more quick related question while I'm here. Are there any boards that stretch the resolution capabilities of Apple's 13" color monitor beyond 640x480? MaxAppleZoom gives me 704x512. Can I go beyond that with a different card? Thanks in advance for any replies, David Bolling (slart@pawl.rpi.edu)
